Preverberation, Siobhan Davies Studios
Curated by Charles Danby. Using light, kinetic elements,
and common industrial materials British artist Nathaniel
Rackowe makes large-scale works that animate
architectural spaces and transform viewers into active
participants. His sculptural works are often made of
low-tech 'functional' materials that explore the
boundaries of the physical spaces that surround them.
Building upon Minimalism's attention to the relationship
between viewer, object, and space, Nathaniel's works
display a shifting relationship to their environment,
exposing otherwise unseen dimensions, visual and
temporal, giving these abstract entities physical form.
The works question the steadfastness of the built
environment, testing its margins and suggesting inventive
and alternate paths of movement. Alongside a new
sculptural work, Block Tower (2008) Nathaniel Rackowe
will show previously unseen photographs that explore
through registrations of scale the structural
possibilities of his sculptures, and a video work that
draws together previously separate footage from a number
of installations that span the artist's career.
